Publishing activity

The generous contributions of various foundations, institutions, companies and the Greek Ministry of Culture have enabled us publish a number of books. For instance the monumental scientific publications The History of the Greek Language and A Greek Bibliography of the 19th Century.

History of The Greek Cigarette, Athenian Fashions at the turn of the 19th Century, History of the Greek Biscuit, among others, are illustrated publications that display different facets of economic and social history, emphasising the activities of Greek businesses and their products.

Covering serious gaps in research and in the book market and giving credit to forgotten artists, these publications have presented new historical and aesthetic approaches to everyday life. Circulating in up to 15,000 copies, they have been very well received and have attracted the attention of the press and the mass media, with numerous articles and dedications devoted to them. The volumes mention the sponsorship contributions that made these publications possible. These contributions are also announced publicly in all relevant dedications, interviews and book presentations. This has the result of projecting the sponsor to a wide and varied audience. At the same time, the publications make excellent and original business gifts, which may be used by the sponsor.

The richness of the material in hand at E.L.I.A. gives our sponsors the added capability of discovering and presenting impressive and rare tokens or records from their very own past in the commercial and industrial fields.

The long histories of businesses and products may be traced through these archives, advertisements, labels, packaging materials, photographs, bills and receipts. This helps to illustrate their role in and contribution to the economic and cultural development of Greece.

• A History of the Greek Cigarette is a work which takes a full historical retrospective into the tobacco industry field, and was made possible with the kind sponsorship of PAPASTRATOS A. E. 
• History of the Greek Language is a publication contributed to by over 66 specialists including philologists, language historians, archaeologists and historians. The evolution of the Greek language is presented throughout four millennia, from its birth up until contemporary times. It was made possible with the kind sponsorship of the J. F. Kostopoulos Foundation and the Marinopoulos Group of Companies.
• Athenian Fashions at the Turn of the 19th Century is an illustrated book tracing the changes, preferences and habits in the attire of the inhabitants of Athens from 1860 until 1920. At the same time, its rich images and photographic content give the aesthetic sense of Athens at a time when it was changing from a village into a cosmopolitan European capital. It was made possible with the kind sponsorship of the Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation. 
• The History of the Greek Biscuit traces the biscuit's age-old course, gives a narrative of its development and acts as an anthology on Greek companies that make biscuits. It was made possible with the kind sponsorship of the E. I. Papadopoulos A. E. company.
• Barkoff in Greece. This catalogue was published in a two-language edition with the opportunity presented by the exhibition of the Russian-Finnish artist's works of art presented by E.L.I.A. in Athens and Thessaloniki. It was made possible with the kind sponsorship of the J. F. Kostopoulos Foundation.
