Collection Keywords: Why are there no documents about Great Britain?
I have tried to limit the collection to approximately 200 subject terms. This forced a single category to cover many related topics. Thus “King” includes not only the documents about King George, but about the royal family, they monarchy in general, and royalists. This simplifies searches but may seem overly complicated to learn.
Other subject matter/naming conventions are:
1. Whenever a document refers to “communists” or “communist anarchists,” etc, I used KKE as the subject.
2. I tried to avoid the use of “left” or “right” thus groupings on the extreme right were tagged as “nationalists.”
3. British was used as a tag when a document involves British policy. “England,” “Britain”, “Great Britain,” and “United Kingdom” were avoided.
4. I have used the term “EAM-ELAS’ throughout the naming of tagging of the collection, even for documents that referred just to ELAS or just to EAM, or EAM-ELAS was used even after ELAS was disbanded after Varkiza.
5. “Nazis” was avoided; German acts of extreme violence were tagged as “German Atrocities.” Massacres is not used.
6. I have used “Varkiza”, “Dekembriana,” “Army Mutiny,” and “Naval Mutiny,” as broad categories.
7. I have used “USSR” as a tag, while the US intelligence documents invariably refers to “Russians,” or “Russia.” “Soviet” is only used as part of the phrase “Soviet Mission.”
8. “Police” is used to describe the actions of any kind of police, whether gendarmes, rural police, security police, etc.
These are the currently used subjects with their frequency of use.
