    Carnival in Athens...
From the Archive of Nikolaos Makkas

Nikolaos Makkas (1875-1949) has been an eminent member of the Greek Navy. After many years of service, from the Greco-Turkish War of 1897, until the Asia Minor Campaign of 1928, he retired as an Admiral. N. Makkas was also a skillful amateur photographer.

His rich photographic archive includes topics taken from life in the navy,  several archaeological sites, especially in Athens, panoramic views of cities and ports, as well as snapshots from the social life of his time. His photographs are mostly from the first decade of the 20th century, while the photographer provides us with a useful annotation and the date of shooting for each one of them.
