    Athens During the Balkan Wars

E.L.I.A. possesses over 300,000 photographs and a large number of engravings and lithographs, which record historical and everyday events in Greece's journey through time.

Photographs were often used as a template for the creation of engraved and etched representations. The scene's subject matter was often dressed up by adding a touch of colour and embellishing the setting. The picture was "corrected" in order to define the scene or the occasion.

One example is the historic photograph taken of King Constantine and Eleftherios Venizelos during their talks at the Hadji Beilik military headquarters. It was near the end of July 1913, just before Venizelos' departure for the Peace Conference at Bucharest.

On the corresponding lithograph, apart from the colour and annotation, we can also distinguish the addition of roses on the bottom left. In the background, on the right, a military camp made up of white tents has been added with the Greek flag triumphantly waving distinctly in the background. In addition, the artist has seen to it to rid the picture of a few poles and to discard objects from the left side that were aesthetically displeasing to him.
