Photographic Archive
The Photographic Archive holds approximately 500,000 images, of primarily Greek interest. A substantial part is constituted by the 19th century collection, one of great importance both in terms of historical significance and commercial value. The Archive’s subject matter varies considerably. Collections of portraits – both of renowned figures belonging to the sphere of politics and literature, artistic and economic life as well as of common people depicted in all aspects of everyday life -, landscapes, images of monuments and antiquities, pictorial records of war conflicts (the Balkan Wars, the Asia Minor Expedition, the Albanian Front etc.) constitute the major thematic groupings. New material is constantly being added to the Archive, mainly through donations.
The photographs are kept in monitored environment, housed in archival-standard enclosures.
