Archives
One of the distinguishing features of E.L.I.A. is the large number of private ar-chives it possesses. The term “private archives” is used to designate archives of individuals who were high-ranking officials of the State and the Church; personages who distinguished themselves in the sciences, letters, arts, in humanitarian, national or other activity; as well as other archives of private in-dividuals that are of interest. Moreover, the category of private archives in-cludes archives of political parties and trade unions, public law corporate bod-ies such as associations, cooperatives, foundations and groups of natural persons, as well as archives of businesses, banks etc.
Besides saving and collecting a large number of private archives, E.L.I.A. is a pioneer in the process of making such material accessible to researchers, since it is the only archive in Greece which provides on line access to the full catalogue of the archives at its disposal and to the archival descriptions that have been compiled.
